Looking for some “Peace, love and music” with a little running first? Well, I’ve got just the 5k for you! Held the last Saturday in September each year, WellsFest is “Jackson’s Original Music Festival.” In its 37th year, WellsFest is still serving up a good time full through food, fellowship and family-friendly fun. This year’s festivities kicked off with a 5k, pet parade, plant sale, nonstop music all day across two stages, a silent auction, the children’s area (with pony rides!) and more local vendors than you can shake a stick at.
The Salvation Army is known for “Doing the Most Good.” Their annual Labor of Love race is just another way they fund assistance programs and support services for men, women and children in our community. The work they do truly is a “Labor of Love,” one that shines through this awesome event.
Ainsley’s Angels roll (literally) by the mantra that EVERYONE should be included. They believe that by ensuring that every single person can participate in endurance events, they can raise awareness about the special-needs community. <3
Ten 5ks in 24 hours?? They say, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” I don’t know about that, but “what doesn’t kill you” definitely gives you a great story to tell! And the Death By 5k Challenge certainly did not disappoint in that regard. The challenge to run a 5k every 2.5 hours across a 24-hour period is one I will NEVER forget!! It was truly a unique experience; read on for a glimpse inside how it all went down.
We splashed. We dashed. We had a SOAKING WET good time in Brookhaven, MS!! I came “locked and loaded” and was drenched by the time I left. (Mostly because I started a water gun fight, buuuuutttttt, none the less!) This race was advertised as “the wettest 5k of the year,” and that promise was definitely fulfilled. 🙂
Firecrackers in flight, this race was an early morning delight! From the fun Independence Day theme to the custom-designed hinged finisher medals, this event fully embodied (pun intended) the Bodies Race Company (BRC) slogan: Fun. Family. Fitness.
This local 5k is most famous for its post-race refreshments! The Watermelon Classic draws a pretty large crowd every year, and this year was no exception. With 800 runners and more than 200 walkers, well over 1,000 watermelon enthusiasts earned their post-race treat in 2019!!
You say tomato, I say tomato!! The Tomato Festival 5k is THE quintessential Mississippi hometown race. Complete with unique tomato-themed awards and a top-notch festival to enjoy after the race, this is a “must-do” event!
DO THE HUSTLE!! Do-dah-do-do-do-do-do-do-do! This hero-themed race really brought out the super-hero in all of us! I know a certain Wonder Woman that had a grand ole time!
I can’t think of a better way to spend a portion of Memorial Day Weekend than by participating in a 5k to honor the men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. In its second year, the Run to Remember offered a 10k, 5k and 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Run. Defining Moments Events selected the Wounded Warrior Project as their charity of choice.
